Who would make a good Teaching Leader?

We are looking for dedicated and ambitious middle leaders, who have high standards for both themselves and those around them. As we invest so much in our participants, we have a rigorous selection process to ensure that everyone we take onto the programme has the drive and potential to develop both themselves and the people around them during their time on the programme. While we don't expect our participants to already be leadership experts (that's what we hope you will learn with us), there are certain competencies that we look for in candidates that we believe are a good indicator of their potential to benefit from the programme:

  • Strong teaching ability, backed up by good OFSTED ratings
  • Alignment with our mission and vision
  • A strong drive for improvement
  • A desire to develop yourself and those around you as individuals
  • An ability to derive satisfaction from enabling others' success
  • Good analytical and strategic thinking skills

Who is eligible?

The programme is ideal for those who have 0-5 years' middle leadership experience, but we also welcome applications from those with more experience but still feel that they are able and willing to learn new ideas.

All applicants must have a middle leadership post at an eligible school confirmed for 2010-11; this includes having a responsibility for the performance of at least two staff.  The programme's practical elements and the skills you learn mean that the authority to manage staff in some capacity in your role is crucial to success on the programme.

Examples of suitable middle leadership roles:

  • Head of Faculty
  • Subject Leader
  • Head of Year
  • 2ic of a large faculty (e.g. Head of KS3 Maths)
  • Whole school roles (e.g. G&T co-ordinator)

The larger your team, the more ability you will have to apply the skills learned on the programme to their maximum effect.

If you are unsure as to whether your role or school is eligible, please get in touch with our recruitment team directly and they will be able to advise you.
