Formal Training and Support

Teaching Leaders combines the practical skills required to help participants be effective in their role, with the latest cutting-edge theory and research in education to help them develop and grow.

Formal training on the programme is delivered through a series of Day Conferences and Evening Seminars - in total two days of training per term. Topics covered in these sessions are then revisited in your coaching visits, where the programme is personalised to each individual's needs. There is also the opportunity to attend Problem Solving Discussion Groups twice a term: these are a unique opportunity to share issues and concerns with peers in a small group setting

Training is broadly divided into 2 strands: Leadership and Management competencies. Each one has 4 modules specifically designed for middle leaders in an urban context:

Management Competencies

Leadership Competencies

"Participants learn how to deliver data-driven interventions by drawing on ideas from experienced leadership experts and the latest research. Furthermore, we help them to implement this by building their capacity to lead and motivate others, understand team dynamics and get the best out of their team."

In order to help you implement and effect change in your school you will receive a comprehensive network of support:

1. Your coach oversees your development over the two years and helps you overcome the challenges you face day-to-day: as well as helping you plan strategically to be more effective in your role and with your improvement initiative. Coaching sessions occur in-school or on the phone eight times a year.

2. Teaching Leaders cohorts past and present work together, bringing their insight and experience from urban contexts around London to solve problems

3. You will be assigned a Participant Experience Manager as your main point of contact with the central team

4. We maintain close contact with your school, designating an In-School Liaison (ISL) to ensure that you are getting the support you need from your school.
