Teach First's mission is to address educational disadvantage by transforming exceptional graduates into effective, inspirational teachers and leaders in all fields.

The registered charity delivers a two-year programme of teaching and leadership development aimed at raising the aspirations and achievements of students in challenging schools, whilst also developing the leadership capabilities of the graduates involved. Having completed their initial two years of teaching, graduates either continue in teaching or move into another sector. All of them remain committed to addressing educational disadvantage and continuing their progression as socially-responsible leaders through the Teach First Ambassador scheme.

Teach First is supported by the government, all major political parties, the head teachers' and teaching unions, and a host of high-profile corporate, public sector and charity organisations.

Future Leaders

The Mission

Every child has potential. We help them realise it.

A partner organisation of Teaching Leaders, Future Leaders aims to recruit, train and support the next generation of headteachers for challenging secondary schools, in order to make a lasting difference to the lives of pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds. It is creating an enduring network of talented and inspiring senior leaders and high performing schools, with the skills and experience to transform deprived urban education.

The Future Leaders Programme

After a year-long apprenticeship in a ‘residency school’ under a successful urban headteacher, cutting-edge UK and US based training, and coaching and mentoring from education leaders, participants should gain a senior leadership role after 12 months. They should also be accepted onto the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) within three years, and obtain a headship position after an intense four years. Participants and residency schools are recruited for London, the North West, North East, the Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, and the South Coast.

Leading Educators

 logo_leadingeducators_120

Leading Educators is our partner programme in America – set up in 2009 as a result of the Teaching Leaders Summit in Washington. Following a successful pilot in New Orleans, Teaching Leaders is now supporting them with their national expansion.

Middle leadership is not a well-known concept in the US, so the pilot of Leading Educators represents a revolution in the structure of school leadership there. It is also the first idea to be exported from the UK to the US since we adopted the ideas of Teach First and Future Leaders from them within the last ten years.

More information can be found on their website www.leadingeducators.org
