TL Primary overview
TL Primary is designed to improve pupil outcomes in reading, writing and numeracy, by unleashing the full potential of your middle leaders.
Middle leadership in primary schools is changing rapidly; with greater autonomy and accountability for areas such as inclusion, behaviour, teaching and learning. We firmly believe that by developing the skills of this critical leadership tier, we can improve the life chances of children and close the achievement gap within primary schools in challenging contexts.
“NAHT is delighted to be a partner of TL Primary. The importance of middle leadership in the primary phase is growing and this new programme will allow us to support and develop our high-potential middle leaders to have the greatest impact in schools. Teaching Leaders’ mission and track record make me confident that TL Primary will be a great support for primary schools in challenging contexts”
Russell Hobby, General Secretary, NAHT
How TL Primary works
Our programme model makes the most of the primary middle leadership structure of a small, collaborative team. Year One is designed to be inclusive and supports a team, ideally made up of three of your nominated middle leaders, to collaborate on a whole-school Impact Initiative, to help you achieve your School Development Goals. At the end of the year, middle leaders who successfully pass the application and assessment process become Fellows. In Year Two, Fellows receive enhanced training and coaching that stretches and supports them to lead a transformative impact project across their area of responsibility. All training is delivered by high-quality facilitators with school leadership backgrounds and takes places outside school hours.
TL Primary consists of two independent yet interlinked years, Year One as ‘Associates’ and Year Two as ‘Fellows’, for those who pass an application and assessment process. The Fellows year is an accelerated development programme aimed at those middle leaders who have demonstrated strong leadership potential.
