Information for schools
The Teaching Leaders programme will benefit not only participants and their pupils on an individual level, but will drive a wider impact across their departments and year groups, and ultimately their schools. The programme is designed to drive change in urban schools, improving pupil achievement and pupil participation. As a programme, we will measure our success by the impact our participants have on the pupils and teachers they work with, and this means that ensuring that the programme benefit our participants’ schools is of fundamental importance to us.
Teaching Leaders is a demanding programme, not just for the participants but also for their schools and Headteachers. One of the defining qualities of the programme is the quality and intensity of the support our participants receive, both from our external coaches and from their schools. If, after reading the following information you need more detail or have questions then please contact our Head of Participant Experience, James Toop on 0207 3956726 to find out more.
- For participants to be successful, they need support from their schools to ensure they embed their learning in their practices and are given opportunities to implement change.
- We expect schools to appoint an in-school liaison for the participant, who will work with the coach and the participant to monitor progress and impact, as well as supporting the participant if they face difficulties in school. The liaison should be someone with whom the participant has a strong working relationship, and should be a member of the SLT.
- In addition, we expect that schools pay £2,000 per year towards the costs of the programme, to cover the residential and training costs over both years.
- At the application stage, we will ask for Headteacher commitment that the candidate is ready for such a rigorous programme, and that they hold sufficiently good relationships in school to be able to implement change and drive pupil achievement. This Headteacher endorsement is critical if we are to work with participants who will be effective in implementing change.
- If the candidate is new to the school, we still require the Headteacher's support for the candidate to participate in the programme, but will use references to understand the candidate's ability to implement change.
