Core Programme: Key Facts for Schools

Overview

  • The Core Programme is a selective, rigorous programme which develops high-potential middle leaders in their roles over two years.
  • There is the option of Masters accreditation through Warwick University.
  • Participants complete the programme over two years in one school.

Role eligibility

It is ideal for high-potential middle leaders with less than 3 years’ experience in a middle leadership role. Within their role, the middle leader must have accountability for the performance of a team of at least two staff with respect to a particular area, e.g.

  • Head of department (or 2ic core department, if they have responsibility for a key stage)
  • Head of Year
  • Whole school role (e.g. Head of G&T)
  • Non-teaching pastoral staff

Curriculum overview

The curriculum focuses on leadership and management in challenging contexts - click here to download a PDF showing a guide to the curriculum content

Delivery

There are four evening sessions and one Saturday conference per term (we expect participants to attend at least 90% of sessions)

  • A Leadership Coach (current or former senior leader) will visit the participant  8 times per year
  • The Induction Day will take place on 13th July 2012 (this is the only day of training that takes place within school time)
  • There is a one-week residential at the start of the programme (19th - 24th August 2012)

Cost

The cost per participant is only £2k per year – and every £1 the school spends in matched by £3 of charitable and public funds. Virtually all training is delivered outside school time so there are no cover costs.
